Due to the boom of the broadband internet, the days of
dial-up internet access may soon be over, this claim was according to a research made by a firm called IDC. In addition, the study also concluded that broadband subscriptions all over the world will grow in volume in the next four years to reach 400 million users in 2010. The factors seen to affect such tremendous growth are lower prices, improved options and growth in the number of devices in the market.
Amy Harris Lind, analyst for IDC also said that 3 out of four households connections will be into broadband as compared to dial-up by the year 2010. Broadband is the preferred choice by consumers todays primarily because of its capability to download webpages faster, in addition it also allows the transfer of files at speeds unimaginable with dial-up.
With the said growth in the number of broadband users, the revenue of companies engaged in the business could also double up. IDC said that the global revenue from these services could reach up to 122.4 billion US dollars in 2010. DSL is still the leading form of broadband connection accounting for more than half of
broadband connections in the world.
