Verizon has invested on technology to assure that even households and businesses in the rural areas get to sample what broadband DSL is all about.
High-speed internet access in rural areas now has become a possibility. Back in the olden days, these areas are plagued with really slow dial-up internet access that hampers their business or personal communication needs.
Due by the fact that cable switches can be an expensive investments, DSL has not reached the outskirts because there are not too many who invests on the technology. But Verizon saw what others didn't see. And that is the potential market ion the rural areas. Despite the reasons why it is taking Verizon back, the company saw it as a right reason to justify the installation of DSL over phone lines. For the customers to avail DSL their home must be within 3 miles from the DSL switch so that high-speed internet can be delivered. Verizon spent nearly $1 million adding the DSL switches in their service area, which includes McDowell , Macon, Swain, Clay, Cherokee, Graham, Madison, Mitchell, Yancey and
Jackson counties. Some of the communities in this area are Speedwell, Caney Fork , Balsam Preserve , WCU area, Walnut Creek, Goose Creek, Tilley Creek, Holly Springs, Tessentee, Eagle Ridge, Caney, Chapel, Clark' s, Ellijay, Rose Creek, Santeetlah, Laurel Oaks and Wilmont.
