The most important phenomenon that caused great impact to telecommunications with regard the Internet is the DSL or digital subscriber line. With a DSL Internet connection you are assured of fast and uninterruptible internet browsing that is a lot better that a dial-up. However, the convergence of fast internet in our
personal computers made some of us pay an expensive price. Because downloading and uploading of pages comes in a fast speed, there is a lot of information or data that we are able to retrieve. Some even go to the extent of addiction with the internet that they sometimes compromise the more important things.
Teenagers are very exposed to the internet. They are probably more aware of what's the latest buzz about computer games or even pornographic websites than most of us adults. And this is all because of a fast internet connection. Imagine if the
DSL speed is a bit slower.
Kids would only use their internet connection to research on worthwhile topics for a school project or communicate with a loved one abroad instead of just wasting time looking at obscene sites. Besides this negative effect, kids who are addicted with the internet also experience health problems such as obesity because they are glued in their computer for hours without engaging in outdoor activities or probably
dulling of eyesight caused by radiation. We might have benefited with a fast internet connection in more ways than one, but we should also be aware of its negative effects.
