DSL subscribers will definitely be delighted to hear this good news: you can now pay your DSL bills through credit cards. There's no need for you pips to wait in the long queue to have your DSL service active again. Just go to your network provider and swipe your cards.
I know this trend is already being used in most cities in Europe and North America. However, I think it is also nice if we include Indian cities in our lists because they'll be experiencing a hassle-free payment soon. Innoviti, the major DSL provider in India has collaborated with Verifone for the said project. People in India have superb talents and computer skills. If I'm not mistaken, most of the technical support representatives of Dell Computer Corporation are from India. They're really intelligent with regards to computer matters so I think it's but right for them to experience the worry-free payment option.
Based on the article I've read regarding the issue, transactions using the plastics only take less than 15 seconds. Whew, I think that was really fast compared to other payment methods available. The system is still under testing at selected hotels, and inns in Mumbai and Bangalore.

In the last few years, we witnessed the dawn of digital subscriber line or dsl, which brings a lot of ease and convenience to internet addicts and fanatics. But with the emergence of dsl, comes the emergence of unwanted things that threaten to destroy this technology. In order to protect your dsl, you should avail of personal firewall, which is a form of protection and security against trojans and unwanted invasion of other people in the Internet. It is quite handy, hassle-free, and allows no malfunction as it secures your dsl, 24/7. Firewall is a kind of system used to ward off anything that poses as a danger to one's network and its equipments.
Firewall is useful since it acts as a guard or wall, so to speak for various bad elements circulating around the cyberspace. This firewall concept reminds me of the anti-virus that I used to install and update every time, to protect my computer from viruses. I remembered, I used Norton anti-virus. The difference between firewall and antivirus is that the latter cleans up the system by curing the viruses while in firewall, it does not allow anything to pass by the network and through that no harm is done in the network. In a way, firewall censors those elements which intends to destroy one's dsl. With personal firewall one can rest assure that their dsl network is safe and sound.

Verizon Communications is ordered by the court to pay $49 million USD to its current as well as its formers employees in the state of New Hampshire and dozen other states. The settlement was sought by employees who were discriminated by Verizon's predecessor companies due to issues relating to maternity leave benefits. The company was ordered to pay $25 Million USD and is expected to pay and additional amount of $24 million. The coverage of the settlement involved 12,000 female employees in both Bell Atlantic and Nynex.
On a lighter note, North Carolina will soon be experiencing a major shift in their DSL internet connections as Verizon, one of the leading broadband providers in the Unite State, has done with its network upgrade which costs the company almost a million dollars. The upgrade aimed at expanding Verizon Communications' DSL service in northwestern North Carolina both to rural businesses as well as consumers.
In addition, Verizon was given the prestigious “Service Provider of the Year” trophy in both Best in Business and Outstanding Innovation categories from the Metro Ethernet Forum early this week. It only gave assurance to the fact that Verizon is the top broadband service provider in the US.

Internet service providers are jacking up their bandwidth capabilities to continuously satisfy the growing needs of their users. Just recently, Time Warner has pumped up its capacity to give specific areas in the East Coast 7Mbps/384Kbps for a package worth $39.95 per month. Others are also going on the same path of overwhelming their consumers with bandwidth packages, such as Cablevision and Verizon.
But just how much bandwidth capbility does a typical consumer really need? According to analysts, a video streamed from CNN.com only uses up around 500Kbps to 600Kbps. Other services such music downloads and Internet telephony use up less bandwidth. To sum it up, the average consumer does not really need all that bandwidth being offered by their service providers. It's only a natural reaction of consumers to want to subscribe to providers that offer faster service. But that's okay since people would always find a way to utilize all the available bandwidth in the future. Verizon's Schommer said, "I remember the days when people said they couldn't imagine who would ever need 64Kbps of RAM on their PCs... Those days are long gone. As new applications are developed for the internet, user behavior will change, an people will find ways to use all that bandwidth."

If there is one good thing that results from competition, then it could be the fall of prices. American middle class are enticed by falling prices of high-speed broadband internet triggered by a price war among phone companies. It's as pretty as it sounds, and it's even breaking records, survey says.
A recent survey conducted by a group called Pew Internet and American Life Project, that a ground breaking number of working and middle class Americans are availing of broadband internet during the past year. From March 2005 to March of this year, broadband adoption have increased by 59 percent, and this is among households that have an annual earning of $30,000 - $ 50,000 USD. A significant increase of 40 percent in households that have an annul earning of less than $30,000 USD was also observed. Overall, 42 % of adult Americans or 84 million have broadband access.
The price war continues but as early as last year phone companies have slashed their prices for broadband service that uses regular phone line. A separate survey conducted by Leichtman Research concludes that cable modems have become less popular compared to DSL, although it still maintains the top spot garnering 52% over all.

Just when you think broadband internet is limited to the PC then think again. If you think you're capable of multitasking then your TV can do it better. Cavalier Telephone and TV has launched its new broadband project and that is to supply Richmond,Virginia with a Broadband TV service which will offer the highly advance MPEG-4 digital technology. This is a breakthrough considering that AT&T is planning to follow only much later this year.
The service will give customers more than 150 digital channels including local networks that are clearer than you think. It makes use of a fully-featured interactive electronic program guide that lets the viewer navigate seamlessly through various service menus, including setting up parental controls for safe family viewing. It has a caller ID feature to allow users to monitor incoming phone calls even while watching. This break from the usual entertainment that people have been accustomed to is good in this era of technology. Broadcast quality digital television will soon change the way people communicate and entertain but nonetheless it goes to show that our preferences change where technology is taking us.

It seems that DSL is going to have a rival when it comes to consumers' internet connections. Before, it was DSL over dial-up internet connections. However, the land is going to see the rise of broadband-over-power-line or what is simply known as BPL. Ohio is one of the states that are in favor of the BPL.
The said innovative internet plan will be competing with its predecessors at a speed between 300K - 2M bits per second. For those in the know, one would surely agree that this is pretty much going to be quite a competition for DSL, cable, and wireless internet service. This little piece of information is confirmed by Network World, an organization that keeps track of information technology. Furthermore, despite the excellent speed service that BPL is offering, it is actually cheaper than cable and DSL internet connections.
In addition, Daniel Weaver says that interested residents of Ohio can have the full access to BPL by end of 2006. Weaver is the City Manager of Clyde, Ohio. Also, the City Council of Clyde will have voted regarding a resolution for NY state firms in designing technical support for the said city's decision to take part in BPL internet connections.

After a certain forum was set against the France Telecom owned company Wanadoo broadband provider, the company finally admits faults in its services and offers possible compensations to displeased and disgruntled users. www.wanadooproblems.co.uk is the forum site started by an unsatisfied customer of Wanadoo to be able to raise their issues and and complaints to the service Wanadoo is providing. Most disgruntled users usual complaint is the unavailability of their broadband service connections.
France Telecom, however, addressed the problem to the roll-out of its Local-Loop Unbundled (LLU) network. The LLU permits a rival telecom operator to be in-charge of BT telephone lines, as well as offer its services to businesses and individual users.
Meanwhile Wanadoo representative denied that a third party is the root of its service difficulties. The company also said that they are aware of the said forum and they assured to settle all problems raised by some of their users. Wanadoo also admitted that the service problems are all Wanadoo-related, and they do not relate it onto their individual suppliers. Moreover, Wanadoo said that they are going to see to it that all issues caused by their service problems will be properly compensated.

BellSouth, top telecoms company and Samsung, have joined forces in a strategic agreement that is aimed to merchandise and co-brand devices for use in the broadband sector. This integration aims to provide solution to the ever-increasing demand in the market for high speed broadband-compatible services to bolster Internet connection.
With such devices, homes and businesses that are hooked to the internet can expand the tasks that they are doing whether communicating with a loved one, downloading of songs and videos, playing online game and searching for relevant information on the Internet. While BellSouth is known all over the country for its host of services, Samsung is known all over the world for its highly advanced products such as mobile phones, High Definition TVs, computer peripherals, among others. An integration between the two is very fitting.
With an increasingly globalized world, there is no reason why companies should isolate themselves from other companies. Even the most powerful corporations cannot stand alone in a world like ours. The world. Convergence is the key. With convergence, our world is getting smaller and smaller by the day.

With the increasing demand for faster Internet connection, DSL providers continue to fill in this gap by providing its clients with better services and more options to choose from. More and more people rely on the Internet for a lot of good and not so good reasons. In much the same way, DSL and broadband services grapple with each other in the digital race. Who will win, we'll never know? But at least it benefits us, consumers, in a better way. Broadband TV is but another product of this crazy competition. You can watch TV, stay connected through a phone line and at the same time use the Internet- all in one service.
The Bravo cable network has dished out to consumers their new broadband channels which will be airing anytime soon. The two channels are brilliantbutcancelled.com and OUTzoneTV.com (in partnership with PlanetOut.com). With this, it is expected that Bravo will continue its legacy of providing the entertainment of which it is known to people; twenty-four hours non-stop through its exclusive series and programs. Bravo is known for such hit shows as “Project Runway” and “Queer Eye For the Straight Guy.”

Verizon Online, one of the biggest DSL providers in the country cut down on their DSL rates for as much as 35-60 % from their original prices. The reduced prices are made available to small businesses that are located in the East Coast.
The price of Business DSL with Dynamic IP was cut down from $ 234,95 monthly to only $204.95 monthly. On the other hand, DSL with Static IP go for as low as $149.95 from an original price of $ 234.95 monthly. Likewise, Verizon also reduced their prices on installation service. East Coast states such as Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont will be paying less for technician visits. But the offer is for a limited period only.
These markdown prices were made effective in May 5. It hopes to entice small to medium business4es to procure Verizons services to facilitate the running of their businesses. It helps network numerous computers to enhance productivity as well as customer service. It is expected that through these innovations Verizon will continue to be at the forefront of the broadband industry with over fifty-three million clients across the United States.

According to a survey conducted during the early part of April 2006, Iceland has the highest percentage of broadband subscribers last year in 2005. Still, the US has the highest number, whole number not percentage, of connected users in the planet. The quantity of broadband users in the US amounts to more than twice of Japan's reported DSL internet users.
Iceland leads the world with 26.7% of its citizens subscribing to a broadband Internet connection that's always on. Second to Iceland is South Korea with 25.4% and the bronze medal goes to the Netherlands with 25.3 %. Not far behind the Netherlands is Denmark with 25% of the population using DSL.
According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the one responsible for the study, the figure of broadband subscribers in Iceland increased significantly by the latter part of 2005. The actual figure of broadband users amounted 78,017. In 2004, Iceland's rate of broadband penetration was 18.2% being placed behind Korea, Denmark and the Netherlands. However, even though the rate of broadband penetration in the US is only 16.8%, it accounts for 49.39 million of DSL subscribers, more than 5 times of the amount of subscribers in Iceland.

Broadband internet service has changed the lives of many people who rely on the internet as a source of information and means of communication. It has prompted a resurgence of innovation and technological development for many companies that provide this kind of service to keep abreast with the latest systems and tools for the consumers. However, it seems that more than the efforts taken to dispel the unlikely effects of competition with other countries adopting the broadband internet, the US is still not climbing the top rank.
In terms of broadband adoption, the United States seems to be left behind by other developed countries. Currently, the country ranks 12th overall and this is likely to pose some serious concerns from IT groups. As a matter of fact, broadband service in countries like South Korea, Japan, and France have better and faster rates than in the US and even more budget-friendly.
Many believe that without government support in terms of legislations, our broadband problem will continue to haunt us. Policymakers should then pass laws in providing incentives to broadband providers like tax exemptions in order that new companies can also provide this service to proliferate broadband subscription in every household.

The public school system of New Orleans has subscribed to an optical Ethernet service from Cox Communication as part of their compliance to the federal law of No Child Left Behind. This project is one of the examples of the initiatives that the education system has undertaken regarding the new possibilities of technology.
The educational institutions want to support the increasing number of computers in a classroom. The network is able to connect about 90,000 in 140 schools in New Orleans. This networking project features a 40 gigabyte bit per second dual ring in its core with 1 gigabyte bit per second access rings. Each school also has Fast Ethernet access links.
The top three sources of the total base of Ethernet customer ports installed in 2004 are healthcare, government bodies, and education. The No Child Left Behind initiative has a provision gives the state and its school district the flexibility to spend federal funds, as long as it accounts for positive results. This means that the state has the authority to allocate half of the funding they receive to any of the programs. There are four chief state grant school programs: Educational Technology, Innovative Programs, Safe and Drug-Free Schools, and Teacher Quality State Grants. Since the state is given the privilege to shift the funds to anyone of those four programs, most of that ends up being spent on educational technology.

The Sprint Nextel Company announced last April 6 that it will compete to the existing DSL service provider. The company develops technology that can provide service far better from the existing DSL. They target the business sectors that do not have ready access to network connection like construction site, events that concern about public safety, and other special events.
The present version of EV-DO Revision Zero can provide downloads between four-hundred kilobits in a second to seven hundred kbps. The EV-DO Revision A will replace the present broadband connections. This product will be out in the market in year 2007. This new technology provides faster service than the present version. It can work at an average speed of four-hundred fifty kbps to eight-hundred kbps for downloads, seventy kbps to one-hundred forty-four kbps for uploads. This development is just a beginning of better and faster service it can provide.
The company works another G4 technology that can provide service of broadband even faster that DSL or cable. It aims to gain bigger holdings in broadband arena that is mobile. The company plans to offer its newly developed technology in the year 2009.

A trade group has guaranteed that we should not be rattled by the surge in the prices of DSL service this year because it is expected to stabilize. The group came up with an annual forecast regarding DSL service prices and is optimistic about the trends.
The reports claimed that although there will be an expected increase in the prices of DSL service at about .15 % a month this is very minimal compared to the annual inflation rate of 2.5 %. It was forecasted that prices are soon going down although at a very slow pace. But since the number of DSL users are expected to massively increase next year, this would have a good impact on DSL prices so consumers need not worry just yet. Because of the rise of DSL users in the following months the downside is reflected on the decrease on landline revenues.
DSL provides wireless broadband internet to its consumers that the dial-up is left behind. The increase in the demand for DSL service is a good thing not only in terms of the affordability of internet for end-users but this would make the technology more competitive and stable not to mention the hiring of additional employees which is a good news for jobseekers.

DSL technology has come of age. Although most parts of the world have hardly even heard of DSL and its benefits to the online consumers, DSL is still growing in popularity and this has been evident in the increase of sales as well as the bear market phenomenon for traditional land-based gaming. Last year alone has proved to be a bumper one for DSL broadband in Europe, with connections rising, year on year, by more than 50 per cent.
Today, there are nearly 50 million DSL broadband technology users in Europe and almost 140 million worldwide, according to the DSL Forum. Compared to other countries in the world, the UK now notches up more than seven million DSL users, making it the sixth most populous DSL nation, according to a new report from Point Topic for the DSL Forum. Surveys shows DSL growth reached more than 73 per cent year on year in 2005, with more than three million new subscribers joining the fold in the year.
The biggest DSL user-base at more than 26 million is China. The United States is the next largest, with nearly 19 million. It's no wonder that DSL technology is very prevalent in the countries aforementioned - the technology has made a considerable role in their progress.

Smart Telecommunications has recently launched its newest feature for its subscribers. The said feature pertains to WiFi DSL technology in the Philippines. The said service was announced in the country with the help of Motorola MOTOwi4 Canopy, which will prove to be an innovative wireless feature for the several subscribers of Smart Telecommunications.
MOTOwi4 Canopy is surely going to be a service that Smart subscribers will approve of. It is believed that MOTOwi4 Canopy will be able to deliver excellent service, fabulous high-speed transmission of data, and of course voice services. The "team-up" of Smart Telecomm and Motorola will definitely be a good decision that the said companies have undertaken. Smart has at least 22M mobile subscribers. Also, it must be noted that quality wireless technology in various residences of the Philippines is becoming more of a fad each day. People have seen just how much technology can do to ease their workload for everyday. Thus, one can just imagine the revenues or income that the said service will bring to both Motorola and Smart Telecommunications.
It is not only in the Philippines that MOTOwi4 Canopy has become a success. Reports say that the said service has become quite a hit in several places too. Locations that have employed the use of said service include Macedonia, South Africa, Indonesia, and Brazil among others. Mobile subscribers from the sad countries are truly getting their money's worth; thanks to wireless technology.

Covad Communication's VoIP service is chosen by Bandwidth.com to be the provider of the mentioned service. This may not come as a surprise to most people since Coved Communications does give excellent VoIP service to its subscribers.
The deal will be proclaimed at different commercial sales, retail locations, and the website of CompUSA. VOA from Covad will make it possible for starting business organizations to engage in a multitude of telephone calls as well as data transfer simultaneously. The business organizations do not have to worry about the quality of the voices since Covad Communications will be monitoring the voice traffic of its clients.
I believe that Bandwidth.com made a wise decision in getting the services of Covad Communications. My sister is a subscriber of Covad Communications DSL service. She has nothing but good praises for the said company. According to my sis, internet connection with Covad is outstanding. Customer support is truly reliable. Also, she has tried the VoIP service from her DSL provider, she affirms that the voice quality and service is absolutely acceptable. Lately, I am thinking of subscribing to Covad myself. That's how much my sister thinks of Covad Communications.

Plans to upgrade China Telecommunication’s, one of China’s two major fixed-line operators, asymmetric DSL networks with more advanced technology are in the works as of this moment. According to reports, China Telecom will upgrade its ADSL network into a more faster and productive ADSL2+ equipment. This move is said to be in preparation for the company’s plan to venture into IP TV services.
ZTE, a Chinese equipment maker, won the contract to provide China Telecom with 1 million ADSL2+ lines. Although the financial agreement of the contract between China Telecom and ZTE was left undisclosed, it has been said that the China Telecom plans to add 3 million ADSL+ lines.
The major reason behind China Telecom upgrade operation is IP TV, but it is still unclear if a service provider will offer the company an IP TV service, according to In-Stat China managing director of market research company, Jason Yin. So far, there has only been one IP TV license issued by China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television. The honor was received by Shanghai Media Group. Even though Shanghai Media Group has been licensed, their plans have been slowed down because of the need to seek permission to regional SRFT authorities.

Wimax is one of the latest technology in Wi-Fi . Wireless Fidelity (as it is purportedly called) is a breakthrough in connection: it allows people to get access to the internet sans cable or DSL. It is number one competition for many DSL companies. However Wi-Fi has its own disadvantages too, when compared alongside DSL.
Wimax, according to experts, is a broadband milestone. It allows people to get internet access via wi-fi hotspots and provides broadband connections over long distances. Is this the end of DSL? No way. Although this type of technology has a potential to sell well in the communication technology market, DSL remains to be a top broadband provider.
